Marta Stetsiv is an energy efficiency expert at RENAC, where she develops and manages international training programmes in the field. She teaches the elective module “Energy Management and Energy Efficiency” in our study programme MBA Renewables, sharing her extensive experience with future leaders in the energy sector.
1. What attracted you to teaching the „Energy Management and Energy Efficiency“ module?
The opportunity to share my knowledge, experience and also passion to the topic attracted me most.
In the past I was managing the planning and implementation of refurbishing multi-story residential buildings, including construction. Seeing all steps of implementation from making the decision until the completion of he construction works was great and a valuable experience. This also inspired me a lot to continue my professional development in the field of energy efficiency this time in a new role as an expert and lecturer. The energy efficiency sector is very dynamic, it includes lots of innovations in smart technologies, materials, digital and IT solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support sustainability goals. I am thankful for this opportunity, because it keeps me learning as well.
2. What professional experience do you have as a lecturer?
I started to work as a lecturer two years ago, when I joined Renewables Academy (RENAC). It was a new role for me. My first session was an online lecture for an Online Academy. Very soon, I was onboarded to more and more projects and was carrying out not only online, but in-person training lectures as well. Besides this, I have been involved in curriculum development, organising training programmes for professionals and mentoring in the field of energy efficiency in buildings and industry, energy audit and energy management. One of my most valuable experiences was being a lecturer abroad in Algeria.
3. What is special about the course for you?
It is very beneficial, that MBA Renewables includes both topics - renewables and energy efficiency, as they complement each other in achieving a sustainable, cost-effective, and reliable energy system.
In fact, every energy efficiency project is unique and requires individual analysis of the consumption patterns, operations, available resources etc. Managing energy efficiency projects requires solid technical expertise, but also real-world problem solving and project management skills. The course provides both: theoretical basis through online training material, lectures and improves practical skills by completing economical evaluation of the energy efficiency measures.
The focus is on guiding through all stages of energy audit process, practical implementation of the energy management system, evaluation of energy consumption, key energy performance indicators and financial indicators, making it possible for MBA professionals to assess the scope of the potential energy efficiency project, assess energy consumption, prioritize energy efficiency measures, get familiar with the existing standards such as ISO 50001, ISO 50002, DIN EN 16247 and understand ways of reducing energy consumption.
